Are these percentages calculated by day (in which case one day of the year < 1%), or by some other scale? Like maybe a planned number of books for the year.

There are two scales, one more obvious than the other. When I read that first book, it’s going to say I’ve read 1 of 100 books and the slider will move to 1%. But if I don’t finish that book before 3.65 days have gone by, that circled message at the bottom will change to “You are 1 book behind schedule.” And if I read faster than 1 book every 3.65 days, the message says something about my being ahead of schedule, although since I haven’t seen that message in over a year, I can’t remember the exact phrasing. 😉
